Nomadesk is a cross platform backup tool which aims to take care of all of your synchronization and file sharing needs.
Nomadesk bills itself as "The easiest and most secure way to share, synchronize and backup critical files; wherever you are, even off-line." It should be noted that backup plans using Nomadesk range from around $15 to $50 a year and this download is a 30 day free trial.
Once you've set it up, Nomadesk is extremely simple and easy to use. A small panel displays your individual and team accounts and you can select when you want to sync files or just let Nomadesk sync them automatically for you. Alternatively, you can use the disk images on your desktop to drag and drop files.
Nomadesk is available in two separate versions — a Team Fileserver for people who want to share and collaborate on documents, and a Personal Fileserver for those who use different computers but want to make sure information is synchronized. Security is obviously an issue but Nomadesk guarantee that their servers are heavily encrypted and password protected.
Sharing folders and files is easy. You can simply e-mail those you want to share data with a link which will give them access to your folders. An added bonus of Nomadesk is a Theftguard which enables you to remove data from your hard drive if your computer gets stolen. Finally, the Delta-sync feature synchronizes only those parts of a file that have changed, saving you time and bandwidth. Meanwhile, if you've got an iPhone, you can access and modify your files extremely easily, via a Nomadesk dashboard widget.
There are some drawbacks to Nomadesk however. One is the lengthy setup process, which requires a complete restart after installation and is really annoying if you've got lots of applications open. You also have to send a confirmation email after the restart, which all adds time onto the account setup process. However, the frequent hang-ups that plagued the last beta release seem to have been largely cleaned-up now although this Windows version still remains in beta for some reason while the Mac version doesn't.
